We live in a time of unprecedented institutional failure. This fuels the pace of systemic collapse, with humankind collectively creating adverse outcomes that include climate mayhem, inequity and impoverishment, violence, destruction of traditional culture, nature, and life. Dominant social structures promote competition, domination, extraction, exploitation and oppression.
Our choice of activity may be explained with the metaphor of the four wings of transformative Earth care depicted as a dragonfly, symbolising change, love, liberation, ecological health and new beginnings – guiding us to practice mindfulness and compassion and cultivate right thought, right speech, right action and right livelihood in the regeneration of Africa’s Rivers and reverence for Mother Earth.
At Asase Harmony we recognise that we live in an unprecedented epoch, and that humankind needs to find new ways of being and of relating, with each other and as Nature. Our work seeks to bring radical shifts and alignments and we embrace the complexity and uncertainty inherent in that quest with compassion, courage, curiosity, creativity, and joy.
We work together with others:
to reconnect with ourselves, each other, and as nature, finding regenerative livelihood pathways.
to promote traditional indigenous lore, culture and wellbeing.
to enhance ecosystem and landscape health, integrity and connectivity.
Asase, which means Mother Earth is the goddess of love, fertility, truth, peace, the arid and the lush earth. Asase Harmony, which looks to bring us in harmony as Mother Earth, is in the inevitable process of change, embracing the complexity and uncertainty of our time with courage. Our strength comes from our openness to working with everyone who finds resonance with our vision. In this way, we continue to grow, deepen our roots, and co-create with others in an intentional and conscious way.
Our impact comes only through collaboration with others, so we enter partnerships in every landscape in which we work. We are aware that the wellbeing of individuals and households depends on all parts of the activity system functioning smoothly together, and we actively look for collaboration between all actors within that system.
Our programmes work to optimize possibilities for wellbeing and life flourishing within different biospheres and particularly in the buffer zones of sacred sites. Programme streams vary according to the possibilities in different settings, and may embrace education, food & seed sovereignty, enterprise and livelihoods strengthening, traditional wisdom and culture, holistic health, spiritual wellbeing, land and nature care, and other regenerative creations.
We recognise that the resolution of our ecological, climate and social challenges is complex and rife with uncertainty. We are constantly in flux. Designs for action must thus be guided by contemplative practices, the regenerative local cultures, cosmologies and ecology. There is no panacea, or “one size fits all” solution.
